Another BCF2000 question

MessageAuthor

Hey guys I know part of this question has been ask before but not sure about the rest. How many BCF units does reaper support I thought it was 3 or 4 depending on how they were connected. I just got one using Cleric's setup and it worked flawlessly. Also when connecting 2 or more are you still able to switch banks 1-16 to 17-32 and so on??? Anyone know if this is possible in Reaper...... scroll down to post #69, something similar to this would be awesome.

RE: Another BCF2000 question

I have two working in mcu mode and banking works fine but I use a undocumented mode on it by pressing two buttons that makes the bcf's only show tracks visible in the mixer, I use this with the sws tracklist and his new hide tracks and zoom command to adapt the mixer and the bcf's to show just these tracks. Works great for me :) here's a link to some bad photos of my set up :)

RE: Another BCF2000 question

hi, using usb midi, you can set the device ID on each unit to one of 16 different values, therefore potentially having 16 hooked up...(?) thats if you have 16 units, 16 sufficiently robust usb connections, room for them all, and the need... each one would be setup in prefs/control surfaces as you do for one. am tempted myself to get a bcr2000 in addition to my aged bcf, as pretty cheap, now with per track/fx focus for midi assigments, default configurations too, just one knob can do loads. p.s glad you liking the clerik package - as it contains a couple of my babies... seeing as i have no other achievements worth noting, i will wheel that one out without shame! ha. @mbn - i know mcu mode is convenient for many reasons particularly track control, but does it not make learning/controlling fx params a pain? that was the main reason i went for the half-half bcf mode method, maybe with tweaked controlsurface.dlls etc. thats not a problem anymore?, dunnno. :)

RE: Another BCF2000 question

Your right that it probably would if i didn't have a remote sl zero to do plug ins and synths :) plus i use the bcfview to show me what fader is what. Don't think that is still usable in the other mode, might try it if it is :) Aren't the faders also only 7 bit in midi mode or are the set for 14 bit?. I hate zipper noise ;)

RE: Another BCF2000 question

ahh, a nice bit of kit, re your q: i think they can be set to whatever with bcmanager, maybe by default they could be 7bit, zipper noise is not good for sure. don't noticed any recently, but only really crops up when controlling syths and pitch/filters etc. am nowhere near my main gear so cant check, but will no doubt. fair point. did use bcfview for a time ages ago with cubase but as rest of setup was lame i didn't carry on with it. think that only works when unit is in mcu mode :( must sleep.

Hey Music, cool setup man........seems like an awfully lot going on though ( I guess if it was mine I probably wouldn't). When you say banking works fine are you banking 16 tracks at a time....1-16, 17-32, and so on. @Benk, do you know how well the banking works with 2 or more BCF's when using Cleric's ( and yours);) setup?

With the standard mcu driver banking seems to work well. Will try to test it and let you know. :)

RE: Another BCF2000 question

I use MCU control because it's the only one that seems to dynamically move the BCF to the highlighted track in Reaper.e.g. if I click on track 42 in my reaper arrangement the BCF will automaticaly jump to that track too, which is how all controlers I've ever used in the past have worked. I also have a BCR which I use in midi mode for controlling plugins, key commands etc. I see no point in having to manually scroll through banks on the BCF to get to your chosen track. Musicbynumbers, is your BC view different from the regular one,it looks different in your photo's to mine? MC

RE: Another BCF2000 question

-- @Benk, do you know how well the banking works with 2 or more BCF's when using Cleric's setup? --- not tried it, i guess to control trks 17-32 you may have to change each unit to preset 2 for example.. however with the 'looks complicated but isn't really' preset changing from reaper capability - you could have it so hitting a toolbar button switches all units to preset X. could also be possible to link a physical preset change on one unit to the another using a similar method. best not to think about all that till the time comes i guess. @norbury, yes at first that lack of focus change annoyed me too, now i have it so only 8 tracks are visible in the mixer - the ones controlled by the 8 faders of the unit, in a consistant fashion. makes traditional style hands on mixing a bit easier. upon banking, the mixer view switches to eg only tracks 9-17, and i know instinctively that the first fader is now controlling track 9 etc. can also change preset/bank from within reaper now which also is a boon. i really need to find something other to talk about than blimmin bcfs!:)

RE: Another BCF2000 question

LOL... So let me get this straight,if I bought another BCF and used it your way I'd have only 16 tracks showing in the mixer at any one time?but, they'd be asignable from the BCF so switching banks would show the corresponding tracks in reaper. Is this something that needs setting up in Reaper? Hmm sounds interesting ,have to have a look at the reaper pre set changing of which you talk :D cheers MC...(U).....LOL
