Hi all, I have a bit of an oil leak that appears to be coming from a split rubber circular gasket located on the top of the water pump. It is a standard 740 gl 2ltr manual. My concern is should oil be leaking from a water pump ???????? could the leak be coming from elsewhere ????? The car drives like a dream and tempreture stays mid table. Would really appreciate any help as i have been looking for a nice saloon for ages and think i may have found it.....apart from the leak that is. Thanks Minty
Are you sure the leak is from this seal (which seals the w/pump to the cyl head? It may be that oil is leaking from the rocker box (common and no big deal) and tracking down to the seal. The seal shouldn't be split BTW but if there's no coolant loss, you're OK for now. Regards.

My 940 sprung an oil leak recently. Turned out to be the front camshaft oil seal. I thought it was the cam cover gasket but there wasn't any fresh oil up that high. I took the cambelt cover off at the top and could see a bit of oil on the pulleys so guessed from there.

Hi If it's the bit in the picture dangling on the hoses below the anti-roll bar then it's the power steering pump, it should be tied up on a bit of string really. Normally it would be bolted up under the water pump. If it isn't can you point it out in the picture. I was going to be clever and look the oil pump bolt up on my parts CD, realised after looking at the picture that is all inside the engine.
