Converting a 720p into mini-HD video

MessageAuthor

Normally I take 720p movies and just resize them basically with the x264 codec so it's great quality and a great resolution for the size of the file. The past few movies I've tried to do, once they are done encoding (through MeGUI) the video seems fine but there is a faint green/purple overlay of the video which is offset (the top left of the messed up part is in the middle of the video). I'm not sure if you can understand by reading this, but I can't show you a picture either because when I save the image through a media player (I've tried with MPC, Zoom, and KMplayer) it displays it as if nothing is wrong. Any help? It's gotta just be a small thing I'm doing wrong but I've redone the process up to 4 times with the same file and the source is perfectly normal. It isn't because I'm encoding two things at once because I've tried doing them one at a time as well.

Are you resizing to a resolution that isn't mod4? Many graphics cards don't like displaying that.

What do you mean by that? The only time I've heard anything about that is when I am in the AviSynth script creator and when you check the box reading "Clever (TM) Anamorphic encoding:" a dropdown is unlocked, but that only reads settings dealing with Mod16. The thing bugging me out is that I've been following the same process and it just randomly started doing this. EDIT: And I do not normally check that box. For example, one of the movies I'm trying to re-encode is 1280x544 and I'm trying to shrink it down to 720x362 (with overflow).

I suppose that is where I ran in to my problem? I need to bump the height up to 364?

Hmm that didn't help :/ and I don't think it's a problem due to my graphics card because I have an 8800gt which isn't bad by any means...and it's never done this before.

@.vaLk. Hi! Have you tried playing the problematic files on several different players to see if they exhibit the same aberrant behavior?

Yes. KMplayer displays the same thing, whereas VLC doesn't pick up ANY media. Not even a total time or anything, it's just idled. I installed KMplayer just a few days ago though (around the same time this started happening) so it may be a codec interference. Are there any known instances of this? Oh and back at Shikari, my normal settings are mod16 and I've tried setting the resolutions to match that, and mod4. Neither work.

I've tried and it didn't work. I don't know if any other codecs were installed with it. :/

RE: Converting a 720p into mini-HD video

I've tried uninstalling EVERYTHING (cccp, k-lite, meGUI, aviSynth) and reinstalling but it's still not working. I have no idea as to why it would start doing this. I've tried using CCCP without k-lite installed and that didn't work either. Would trying k-lite without CCCP installed make a difference? The only thing that's throwing me off is MPC is playing the file with distortion, but VLC isn't playing anything or even showing a total time length in the player. :/

Have you tried simply performing a "System Restore" back to the last time things were working properly?
