I searched for "firmware" on google, and the first result had firmware for your drive. However if that doesn't work, you should be able to use the utility you spoke of by creating a DOS boot disk and running it from there. A directory of sites dealing with such boot disks is at . -h

you find a whole bunch of firmware updates... but they usually don't make your drive region free do they?!? well anyway thanks for the help... i'm going to try the boot disk version! steVe

The top search result was called "the firmware page" and contains nothing but patched firmware. The "DVD-ROM" section contains region-free patched firmware for your drive. -h
