Don't know about the XC90, but the XC70 in normal driving conditions puts 95% of the drive through the front wheels & the tyres on the drive wheels tread to wear quicker plus with the added weight of the engine meean the front wear quicker. As for the make of tyre, Auto Express did a test in the last issue and Pirelli overall came out near the bottom and I think Michelin & Conti were middle'ish. Personally, I'd buy 2 new tyres now putting them on the front wheels (if they are the main drive wheels), but buy the same as what already is on the car. If you want to change the make or type of tyre then safer to change all 4 this time and then 2 next time.

I jave only had my XC90 three months so I am way off (I hope) having to change any tyres, but having read the countless reviews on Nokian tyres on this site I would definately go for those as it looks as though the world will run out of oil long before those Nokians will need changing!!!!!!

New to the forum, and new to XC90, but.... Had an 06 Jeep Grand Cherokee to which I fitted 4 x General Grabber UHP's To say they were a revelation would be an understatement, I could stop in the wet, corner with a feeling of security and they have been quiet and very good wear Will be fitting them to my XC90 when it needs tyres... Yes I know this is an old thread, but you still need to know The Grabber UHP's are a premium tyre and very good

General is an american breed of tyre, and are very well suited to 4x4's, its only in the last few years they've went into car tyres. I fitted them all the time to 4x4's and never had any complaints, i also have them on my 740 and find them to be a great tyre, got 40k out of them and only changed them cause the bad weather was coming in. Highly recommend them.
