For the guys here doing their mastering, I got a really dumb question. Do you guys care about RMS level when mastering ? If yes, what maximum RMS level would you let a mix reach, if the peak meter is under 0 ?
really depends on the material. on this machine, the reaper rms meter is set so that -14db rms (i think? it's whatever is the default) shows up at the same level as 0 on the peak meter. i feel like that's a pretty good target - still plenty loud but not squished to hell.
REAPER's master mix meters are fully configurable. FWIW, working at 24/44 I keep mine configured to K-20 (Bob Katz), whether I am tracking, mixing or psuedo mastering. You can find all you need to setup REAPER for K-metering here: PS: Be sure to have a sound level meter handy to truly setup your monitoring system correctly. I use an inexpensive one from Radio Shack: Cheers, Billy Buck
never mind.. found "the catch" ;) I have no problem donating just hate being lured in on every website that links to it saying "it's free!" when it is clearly not.. oh well, active member, here I come!
