Associating an item with a marker.

I second these request, much needed. Find myself moving lots of markers just because I removed a tiny fraction somewhere. /Johan

Interesting idea. There would need to be some visual indication...the marker and the item might have the same color, or a triangle in the lower left corner on the item. Otherwise I think it might be a recipe for disaster (or at least some inadvertently moved items.)

Maybe it would be enough to have ripple editing also apply to markers?

GregHolms has it right: if ripple editing applies to markers you're done.
