anyone heard of DACS mic preamps ?

I just got a hint to have a look at DACS mi preamp (), which is supposed to be a high-end quality for a very reasonable price. Does anyone have any direct experience or reference to that ? Looks very tempting Ivo

Ivo, No word on these. But seriously, if I've heard you correctly on your other post. Can't return the unit. Special order etc from Prague. I would recommend looking into Millennia's HV-3B By all standards you seem to be looking for...this seems to fit the bill. Take a look at WHO's using these? See what I mean? The only criticism is, apparently they are a bit sensitive to RF (you can read this on a review over at Great River) But, the actual J-FET class A descrete TLA inside this box...is available OEM. And if you contact Massenburg (GML) or Earthworks you might find they (may) base their units on Millenia's front end. I am not sure of that fact. So don't quote me anyone. Neither are they transformer balanced. So they all might be sensitive. All fit in the same price range. Only GML has a separate (pro) powersupply. My question: will the Earthwork's Lab2 'handle' 150 ohm mic output impedance (U87s??) OK? .02 Good luck on the hunt

Priced Cranesong's Flamingo lately? That'll put a serious hurt on. FWIW- Chesky Records is using the Millennia HV-3B & Ivo's dreaded DPA mics, But Clarity Records i.e. The Hot Club of San Francisco (Dan Hicks/Maria Muldaur, etc) 'Naturally Balanced Two Microphone Recording' wow! Whatever they are using...that CD sounds incredible! You want some of that.
