Help! Something weird keeps happening to my midi tracks.....

MessageAuthor

Suddenly, when I take a midi groove from Toontracks DFH, and drag and drop it on a track, and then "save" the project, when I close the project and re-open it, the midi info is "offline" and Reaper says it cannot find it. This never happened before. What could be the cause and the solution? Why is the midi info disappearing? I tried this with Adictive Drums and the info stays put just fine!

Does nobody know what gives? Could it be where those beats are stored? But, I have been using it for years and this is the first time it has happened.

What happens when you open old projects that you've performed the same drag-n-drop in?

midi files should just become part of the saved project... should not matter where they were stored before being put into the reaper project... afaik

Did you set REAPER to save MIDI in ".MID files" instead of "MIDI items (in-project, recommended)"?

It does sound like that external save function is not working correctly, or the project has lost the path to the MIDI files though... Known bug Ollie? >

RE: Help! Something weird keeps happening to my midi tracks.....

I look around and found the two midi files I was working with inside the toontrack folder, but not put away in the folders that they reside in normally. They appear to be copies of the original midi files. As to why they were in that location, I put down to the midi file parameter I changed recently, (create new midi items as .MID files), about how to store the midi files. (That's all I can think of.) I erased those two files and, as stated previously, I had already changed the Reaper midi parameter back to default (In project, recommended). Then, I just pointed Reapers "search midi" towards the toontrack folder and the midi files seems to stay put now, within the project. Reaper no longer asks for missing midi files. It would be really nice to save copies of the midi files I am working on in the project folder, but changing "create new midi items as .MID files (Not "in project" as recommended), seems to have made big a fat, inconvenient mess. I guess I'll just have to manually export midi files.
